The Missouri 8-Man Football Coaches Association will be hosting its sixth annual Missouri 8-Man Football Senior All Star Game on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at Patterson Field on William Jewell’s campus in Liberty, Missouri. Thirty-nine of Missouri’s top 8-Man senior football players have been invited to participate in this event. They will report Thursday, July 10, 2014 to William Jewell College and practice for three days as a member of either the Blue or Red team in preparation for the event. The teams will be coached by 8-Man football coaches from the eight teams that made the state playoffs in 2013. Once again, Coach Jonathan Schoonover of North Andrew leads the Red Team. He is assisted by Tyler Anderson of Southwest Ludlow, Chris Healy of Worth County, and Mark Juhl of St. Joseph Christian. The Blue Team is led by Coach Dan Collins of Stanberry in what will presumably be his final coaching stint, since he has stepped down after leading the Stanberry Bulldog football program for over 20 years. His assistants are Kirk Thacker of Hardin-Central, Ross Hastert of Rock Port and Brian Messer of Mound City. The players were drafted by the coaches; thereby pitting previous teammates against one another in certain instances. “I have deeply enjoyed my coaching career. I am so honored and excited to be able to take the field one last time with all this talent. This experience is fun for everyone involved. There is a lot of great talent on the field, and that makes it a pleasure to coach,” said Dan Collins, head coach of the Blue All-Stars. “Above all, you start to see how the guys forge friendships in those few days they are together. It is a nice transition to the college experience in that guys against whom you previously competed become your teammate and friend in a dormitory setting. We have a lot of fun activities for the boys besides just football. I think if you ask anyone who has either participated as a player or attended as a fan they will tell you what an enjoyable event this is. The Association is particularly proud that it can provide two players with a scholarship to assist them in achieving their educational goals.” Admission is $7.00 per person. Gates open up at 5:00 p.m. T-shirts will be for sale throughout the contest. All proceeds go to the Missouri 8-Man Football Coaches Association.
